Flip the Flop into Art
Ethical art work, wall art, sculptures, jewellery and more made out of recycled flip flops.
Who: Ocean Sole
Where: Nairobi, Kenya
The Problem: Every year, thousands of tons of flip flops are found washed up on the beaches and waterways of Kenya.
The Solution: Ocean Sole recycles over 400,000 of these flip-flops every year – that’s more than 300kg of waste recycled every day. The flip flops are cleaned, moulded together and then carved by local artists into colourful artwork, toys and other products:
- Colourful wildlife artwork: From marine life to African safari animals, these flip flop models come in various sizes and colours, and make wonderful gifts.
- Unique flip flop sculptures: Have a favourite animal in mind? Ocean Sole’s artists can be commissioned to produce recycled flip flop sculptures of any size.
- Small things: Shop for doorstops, key rings and pen tops.
- Jewellery: Beaded bracelets made by women in Northern Kenya.
