Upcycling the Ocean: #becausethereisnoplanetb
Where: Madrid, Spain
What: Unisex clothing, footwear, bags and accessories made from recycled ocean waste.
About: Ecoalf was founded by Javier Goyeneche in 2009 due to his frustration with the excessive use of the world’s natural resources and the amount of waste produced by industrialised countries. His fashion company removes waste from the sea and transforms it into new top-quality materials to create a wide selection of unisex clothing, footwear, bags and accessories.
Ecoalf’s ‘Upcycling the Oceans’ project with the support of fishermen is removing marine waste from the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea and the waters around Thailand. They are then transformed into 100% recycled and recyclable fabrics in Spain. To date they have recycled more than 70 million plastic bottles into polyester, and more than 60 tonnes of discarded fishing nets into nylon. They also use recycled cotton and wool, left over fabrics, recycled used tyres and even used coffee grounds. Technological innovation meets environmental design.

The Ecoalf Foundation is creating partnerships with fishermen to take action on ocean pollution, conduct ocean cleaning activities, and the revaluing of waste.
They are innovating new technologies to recycle waste into wearable fabrics, including reducing water, energy and CO2 in every step of the process.
