Who: Adidas-Parley

Where: Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Middle East

About: Parley for the Oceans is an organisation in which creators, thinkers and leaders come together to raise awareness about the state of the oceans and to collaborate on projects that can protect and conserve them. As a founding member, Adidas supports Parley in its education and communication efforts, as well as its Ocean Plastic Program that aspires to end plastic pollution of the oceans.

Adidas created a world first with a shoe upper made entirely of yarns and filaments reclaimed and recycled from ocean waste and illegal deep-sea nets. Parley’s partner organisation Sea Shepherd retrieved the nets after a 110-day expedition tracking an illegal poaching vessel, which culminated off the coast of West Africa.

Today the partnership has formulated a range of high performance swimwear and sports shoes made from recycled plastic from the ocean and upcycled plastic waste intercepted before it reaches the ocean.

Their swimwear range include bikinis, swimsuits, boxers, jammers, and trunks. The fabric is made of chlorine-resistant fabric that features ECONYL® yarn spun from recycled plastic. Their shoe range include trainers, sandals and flip flops and use the same recycled material.

Feel good shopping

Adidas-Parley promote education in communities and businesses to avoid using plastic wherever possible, intercepting plastic before it reaches the ocean, and in redesigning the plastic economy.

Adidas are driving innovation in ocean friendly material design whilst using recycled plastics.

They have now stopped the use of plastic bags, microbeads and plastic bottles throughout their business.
