What: Two tailored manta ray trips in Raja Ampat allowing guests to experience the incredible diving that the region provides as well as assisting in the collection of data that is vital in researching these giant rays.
Learn about manta rays from the resident manta ray scientist through dives and onboard presentations. ID mantas through their unique belly patterns with data added to a worldwide database to track migration patterns throughout Raja Ampat and the rest of Indonesia. The data is used to highlight to governments the need for wider areas of protection.
When: November to April.
Duration: 7 or 10 night stays
- 7-day (North & Central Raja Ampat)
- 10-day (Misool South Raja Ampat)
Accommodation: The Ratu Laut liveaboard dive boat is a traditional Indonesian Phinisi sail boat, equipped with modern facilities and cabins with space for 10 guests.
- Barefoot Conservation is a non-profit volunteer base, hosting international students who learn to dive and take part in coral reef surveys and research.
- Started a Manta Ray monitoring programme along with the Aquatic Alliance in Raja Ampat and Bali.
